Star Wars: What series will be released in 2022?

Following the debut of The Book of Boba Fett, Lucasfilm sets the calendar for a year packed with Star Wars shows. Don't miss out on what's coming in 2022.

Update:
Star Wars: What series will be released in 2022?

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett arrived at Disney+ last December 29, but the adventures of the galaxy’s best-known bounty hunter will continue throughout the first weeks of 2022. This will not be the only epic set in the universe created by George Lucas, since there are already several confirmed series for this year. Although none of them has a specific release date, we know the titles that will arrive in the coming months. Let’s check them out.

Star Wars: Andor

The Rogue One prequel will have once again the presence of Diego Luna, the Mexican actor who plays the main character, Cassian Andor. The story takes place during the years leading up to A New Hope, the moment where Emperor Palpatine is at the height of his power. As the evil Galactic Empire prepares their ultimate weapon, the Death Star, a group of rebels begin to gather to end Darth Sidious’s reign of terror.

The series production wrapped last Summer, but no release date has been confirmed.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi

A decade after the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi finds himself on Tatooine. His task? To protect the young Luke Skywalker to maintain him far from Palpatine’s clutches and his father, Lord Darth Vader. None of the Sith know that Anakin’s son is among the living, but there is always the possibility that the information will reach Imperial ears.

Although there’s no information about the series’ plot, actor Ewan McGregor (Kenobi) has made clear that a lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan and Vader is in the works. Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin in the prequels, will return as the Lord Sith.

Star Wars: Bad Batch, Season 2

This follow-up to Clone Wars is a Spin-off directed by Dave Filoni, who also created Rebels. This new animated series begins immediately after Clone Wars’ seventh season, just when the self-designated Emperor Palpatine issues Order 66. The clones with a chip, forced to execute this command, treacherously assassinate the Jedi Knights. Members of Squad 99 (at least some of them) are immune to the inhibitor chip, however.

The adventures of Crosshair, Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, and Omega will continue with a new batch of episodes, although there is still no date.

The Mandalorian, Season 3

Of all the Star Wars stories, one that remains a complete secret is The Mandalorian’s Season 3. Jon Favreau’s series took a break in 2021, offering its slot to The Book of Boba Fett. Filming kicked off without Pedro Pascal, who is currently working on The Last of Us series that will premier on HBO Max. Still, Mando’s new adventure is slated will debut in 2021.

Beyond these series, Lucasfilm is preparing for the future: Ahsoka and The Acolyte, the first series set in the High Republic, will begin production in 2022.
