Blizzard announces a brand-new survival game

Blizzard seems to be ready to get back on track. The Irvine, California-based developer announced that it is already working on a new project and needs people to write a new chapter in Blizzard's story.

In a new blog post, Blizzard announced that it is developing "a brand-new survival game for PC and console." For now, the title doesn't have a name yet, but the company is already looking for people who want to get into the project and help them create a new universe with them.

“Every story needs a teller. And every world needs builders. What if that could be you?”, it reads on the blog. “Blizzard is embarking on our next quest. We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console.”

A new IP means many things to Blizzard. Overwatch, its team-based shooter, was announced at BlizzCon in 2014, making it the first all-original IP in 17 years. The title became a hit for the company, going on to have its own Esports league.

Although it is a work in progress, it appears that the internal team is ready to support. Mike Ybarra, head of Blizzard commented via his Twitter account that "I'm incredibly excited about the team’s vision and the brand-new world it presents for players."

A busy week for Blizzard

Just last week, Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard for US$70 billion. This transaction is expected to be completed during the fiscal year 2023, considering that it is still pending approval by the relevant regulatory authorities. According to the statement, Microsoft will pay $95 per share in cash transactions valued at $68.7 billion. When the deal closes, they will become the third-largest company in the industry based on revenue, behind only Tencent and Sony.
