Ubisoft defends its NFTs and says users have misunderstood the concept

The controversy of NFTs and blockchain technology continues in 2022, and everything seems to indicate that it will continue in the coming months. Ubisoft Quartz represents the French company's bid for this type of product, which has triggered a strong negative reaction among the gaming community, which is wary of these new lines of business. In an interview with Finder, Ubisoft's vice president of strategic innovation, Nicolas Pouard, has pointed the finger at gamers and said that they have not grasped the supposed benefits of NFTs.

“Well, it was a reaction we were expecting,” admitted the directive. “We know it's not an easy concept to grasp. But Quartz is really just a first step that should lead to something bigger. Something that will be more easily understood by our players.” Pouard has pointed out that it has been consumers who have failed to see the supposed benefits of NFTs.

"The opportunity to resell their items "

“I think gamers don't get what a digital secondary market can bring to them. For now, because of the current situation and context of NFTs, gamers really believe it's first destroying the planet, and second just a tool for speculation.” However, the French company says that for them it is an "end game", which translates as "giving players the opportunity to resell their items once they're finished with them or they're finished playing the game itself. So, it's really, for them. It's really beneficial. But they don't get it for now.”

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is one of the most recent ones. The developers decided to withdraw their plans regarding NFTs because of the negative reaction following the announcement. Pouard has referred to this case: “It's saddening to see there's still some resistance based on misunderstanding. But I'm not sure we can really compare what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was trying to do with what we are trying to achieve with Quartz. It's not the same use-case to the players, I would say.”
