How do you upgrade your weapons?

The quickest and easiest way to do it is to visit the blacksmith in Roundtable Hold. When you talk to him you will see a menu in which you will get the preview of the next upgrade, as well as the price it costs and the rest of the details. When a weapon disappears from the menu when you apply an upgrade, it means that it has reached its maximum potential. Here is a list of the Smithing Stones and Somber Smithing Stones that each weapon needs.

All Smithing Stones

The normal weapons are the ones that don't have special characteristics. Mainly the ones you find around the map and you can buy for a very low price from some merchants.

  • Smithing Stone [1]: Strengthens armaments up to + 3
  • Smithing Stone [2]: Strengthens armaments up to + 6
  • Smithing Stone [3]: Strengthens armaments up to + 9
  • Smithing Stone [4]: Strengthens armaments up to + 12
  • Smithing Stone [5]: Strengthens armaments up to + 15
  • Smithing Stone [6]: Strengthens armaments up to + 18
  • Smithing Stone [7]: Strengthens armaments up to + 21
  • Smithing Stone [8]: Strengthens armaments up to + 24
  • Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone: Strengthens armaments up to + 25

All Somber Smithing Stones

Special weapons are, as the name suggests, exotic pieces that are harder to find, including weapons you get from killing some special bosses and enemies during the story.

  • Somber Smithing Stone [1]: Strengthens special armaments to +1
  • Somber Smithing Stone [2]: Strengthens special armaments to +2
  • Somber Smithing Stone [3]: Strengthens special armaments to +3
  • Somber Smithing Stone [4]: Strengthens special armaments to +4
  • Somber Smithing Stone [5]: Strengthens special armaments to +5
  • Somber Smithing Stone [6]: Strengthens special armaments to +6
  • Somber Smithing Stone [7]: Strengthens special armaments to +7
  • Somber Smithing Stone [8]: Strengthens special armaments to +8
  • Somber Smithing Stone [9]: Strengthens special armaments to +9
  • Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone: Strengthens special armaments to +10

How to obtain stones and forging materials?

Luckily, the world of Elden Ring is so big that you will get many of them while exploring. Our advice is that, if you are looking for this type of objects, you should focus on completing secondary dungeons, since they almost always hide this type of materials. For example, dungeons that are mine or cave type, are often rich in minerals and you will be able to harvest various stones and Somber Smithing Stones in them. However, in the case of the Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, things change: although it is possible to find some if you are lucky, it is better to play it safe and try to kill dragons, there are many around the map (some appear randomly in certain places) and it is likely that you will find the precious stone as a reward.

How to buy Smithing Stones and Somber Smithing Stones through the store

There are a number of items called Smithing Stone spheres [1]. If you have them, you can give them to the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold. By doing so, this character (counts as one) will open a store with stones of the same value as the sphere you gave him. We will update soon with the location of all the spheres.
