Elden Ring: New Game Plus; everything you need to know

Have you finished Elden Ring and found all the secrets? Then you are already thinking about the New Game Plus or second round, everyone calls it in their own way. In this article we tell you everything you need to know in order to embark on a new journey, in which you will probably want to unlock a different ending than the one you saw the first time.

New Game Plus at Elden Ring: how does it work?

It is important to know that the game never forces you to go to New Game Plus mode. Once you choose to watch an ending and finish watching the credits, an option will appear that allows you to skip to the Journey 2 or stay in your current game. If you stay, you can start the New Game Plus at any time through the new Site of Grace that has appeared in the Roundtable Hold (it is right on the table in the starting room).

What items and progress are kept in New Game Plus?

Before giving you a breakdown of what you can keep and what you lose, you should know that Elden Ring has an important new feature compared to other games: all the maps you collected, as well as all the dungeons, cities and places you discovered remain marked on the map from the very first moment of the Journey 2. The only thing that disappears are the Sites of Grace you activated.

Everything you keep in the Journey 2

  • Character level and statistics
  • Full world map and locations
  • Weapons and armor
  • Spells and incantations learned
  • Ashes of War
  • Summoning Ashes
  • Memories of defeated bosses
  • Crafting and forging items
  • Consumable items
  • Learned recipes
  • Flask of Wondrous Physick and its formulas
  • Golden seeds
  • Upgrades applied to weapons and shields
  • Health and HP vial upgrades

Everything you don't keep

  • Story progression; everything starts from scratch
  • Key items such as keys and the like
  • Progress in NPC quests
  • Site of Grace activated (fast travel)

Most important changes

The main novelty you will see in the Journey 2 (and later) is the increase in difficulty and rewards. Enemies and bosses will be harder, although in the first few hours you will feel stronger as you will have a high level and improved equipment. Of course, the number of runes you earn will also be higher. To give you an example, Margit will give you no less than 60,000 runes; imagine how many you will get by defeating other more advanced bosses.
