Firmware
PS4 and PS5 : All the new features of the new update; now available
In addition to UI and accessibility improvements, the option to create or join groups from the console itself has been added.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new firmware update for PS4 and PS5. After some users had already been able to test some of the new features thanks to the beta, now these are being applied to the rest of the players. As reported by the official PlayStation blog, among the implemented features are some of the most requested ones, such as the option to create or join open and closed groups from the same console. The patch is already available for download.
Another improvement focuses exclusively on PS5, as they have improved the Game Base UI and trophy cards. Additionally, they have incorporated accessibility features such as mono audio for headphones.
The company further reports that those who need "a refresher on PS5 features" can take a look at the new Pro Tips cards, which can be found in the Control Center. It will also be possible to learn how to pin videos and apps to the screen while playing or share the screen with friends, among other tips.
Other improvements: PS App and PS Remote Play
The PS App will also be enhanced with some options, which will be added gradually. Among these updates are the option to create or join open or closed groups through the app. On the other hand, the app's Game Base UI has also been updated, in order to "make it easier to access the Friends, Parties and messaging features."
As for Remote Play, the functionality that allows you to play on other devices via streaming, now includes with this update a dark mode and new languages for the screen reader: Portuguese, Finnish, Swedish, Turkish, Greek, Thai and Chinese (traditional and simplified).
PS5 will support VRR (variable refresh rate) in the near future.
