A New Saga

New The Witcher is not The Witcher 4, insists CDPR

CD Projekt RED's new production is already underway and will launch a completely new saga.

New The Witcher is not The Witcher 4, insists CDPR

Geralt of Rivia not being the protagonist of the next The Witcher is something that CD Projekt RED had already confirmed previously. After the third installment, his story was wrapped up, at least for the time being. In the meantime, the Polish studio has been working on the next entry in the series, a game that has already been announced and will mark the beginning of a new saga. Radek Grabowski, the company's global communications director, tweeted what this future title is not: The Witcher 4.

CD Projekt RED assures that the next installment will not be "a game called The Witcher 4", while Radek himself recalls that it will not be released exclusively in any specific store. This regarding the agreement that the Polish company has with Epic Games, an alliance that consists of this new installment using the powerful cross-platform graphics engine, Unreal Engine 5.

"Right now, we are not discussing any specifics in terms or story, characters, mechanics, or plot details," he writes. For now, we will have to wait until CD Projekt RED is ready to present these details, which fans of the Witcher saga are eagerly awaiting.

Mystery (partly) solved: the House of the Lynx

Certainly, nothing has been revealed about the story arcs that the new The Witcher will explore, but the developers have clarified one matter: the shape of the medallion that appears half-hidden in the snow. Speaking to Eurogamer, Radek himself confirmed that it is a lynx, suggesting the appearance of the House of the Lynx, unheard of in canon products and video games. This is important because it will help determine the main character's identity.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has not yet finished its commercial run. The game will be updated in the second half of 2022 with a next-gen version for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. Those who own the game on PS4, Xbox One and PC will have the opportunity to access the patch at no additional cost.
