Remedy announces Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes; Rockstar will fund the project

Max Payne will make a return following the announcement of a remake of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. The title will be developed by Remedy Entertainment and financed by Rockstar Games, and will arrive on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Remakes, first details

Remedy made the announcement on their social media and through a statement on their official website. Although at the moment the details about this remake are brief, Remedy makes it clear that although it is a remake, it will remain a "typical Remedy AAA-game production". In the statement, it is mentioned that both remakes will arrive as a single game, which will run on Remedy's proprietary graphics engine, Northlight, the same one they used for their 2019 title, Control, and their recently announced Alan Wake 2.

"We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games," said Rockstar founder Sam Houser. "We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years and we can't wait to play these new versions."

“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

When will the remake of Max Payne 1 and 2 be available?

For now, there is no release window for these remakes. In their press release, Remedy Entertainment mentioned that "The project is currently in the concept development stage," so it is too early to even give a release window.
