DualSense controller can now be updated on PC without using PS5: How?

Until now, anyone who wanted to update the DualSense controller firmware had to do so using a PS5, but Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that PC users will be able to access the latest update via Windows 11 and " select Windows 10 devices", all without the need to connect it to the console.

The Japanese company has shared a tutorial, which we show below.

How to upgrade DualSense on PC

  1. Download the Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller and save it to your desktop or other location.
  2. Run the installation file, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the app.
  3. During the installation, you might see a request to download additional software that’s needed to use the Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller. To download this software, follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Launch the Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller.
  5. Use a USB cable to connect your controller to your Windows PC, and then follow the on-screen instructions to start the update.
  6. Don’t turn off your Windows PC or disconnect the USB cable during the update.
  7. When the update is complete, a message appears. Select [OK] to finish the process.

According to PlayStation's website, the requirements to access the update include having a Windows 10 or 11 64-bit operating system. A screen resolution of 1024 × 768 or higher is required, and of course, there must be a USB input to connect the controller.

The DualSense controller is PC-compatible since launch. The Japanese company distributed the official drivers while Steam optimized the use of these accessories on its platform. They are notable for the adaptive triggers and haptic functionalities, which elevate immersion through the vibration of the controllers.

PS5 is available since November 2020, but the semiconductor crisis has prevented the consoles from arriving regularly in stores.
