Diablo 4 reassures fans: monetization will be focused "on cosmetics and expansions"
Blizzard Entertainment's Global Community Lead for Diablo reassures users about the business model they will be taking from the launch of Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 makes clear what will be its monetization system. Adam Fletcher, head of communications at Blizzard Entertainment, reveals that the business model will start as a "full price game" that will be complemented with "optional cosmetic items & eventually full expansions."
"D4 (Diablo 4) is coming out as a full price game built strictly for PC/console audiences," Fletcher explains on his personal Twitter account. "The game is huge & there will be tons of content after launch for all players. Paid content is built around optional cosmetic items & eventually full expansions." He concludes by advising the community that they will "soon" share more details about their roadmap.
Diablo 4 sets its path to the public
We won't have to wait long to return to Sanctuary. As Blizzard itself warned last April: "Development is progressing well". Diablo 4 will be released sometime in the first half of 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. It was undoubtedly one of the biggest names at the last Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase.
Let's remember that the division led by Phil Spencer expects to add Activision Blizzard to its ranks once the transaction closes in the coming months. That is why we understand its appearance at the event. However, at this time, its participation in the Xbox Game Pass catalog has not been confirmed from day one. It is to be expected that between now and its launch, and at the expense of what happens with the regulators, it will be known if the company finally enters into Microsoft's organization chart. It will be key to tip the balance to one side or the other.
We know it will feature cross-play between all platforms. Blizzard hasn't forgotten about couch co-op either: you'll be able to share the adventure with another player in local mode.
