Fall Guys reaches 20 million players after becoming free to play
Mediatonic celebrates 20 million Fall Guys players in just 48 hours after changing its business model and launching on more platforms.
Fall Guys was one of the most significant viral phenomena during 2020, but like all viral phenomena, it had a moment of glory and a moment of decadence. Mediatonic's decision to turn it into a free-to-play game clearly intended to revitalize it, something that was finally done last Tuesday. Have they managed to bring Fall Guys to the spotlight again? Well, you only have to look at the game figures to find out they have.
A second wind for Fall Guys
As announced by the studio itself on its official Twitter account, Fall Guys reached a whopping 20 million players in the 48 hours following the game's move to free-to-play. It should be noted that this change of model was also accompanied by its launch on platforms such as Xbox and Nintendo Switch, since so far it was only available on PlayStation and PC consoles. It should be noted that part of its initial impact back in August 2020 was due partly to its inclusion among the monthly PS Plus games.
And that, like any massive launch, it was not without problems. Starting last Tuesday, players experienced a server crash, being unable to connect to the servers and permanently seeing the same error message over and over again. "We are aware that some players are unable to matchmake right now!" they said officially at the time. "To celebrate our Free for All launch, I baked us a cake, but I dropped it on the servers and now i am cleaning up the frosting from the computery bits. Will bake us a new cake though."
Fall Guys is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC.
