Why the Avengers didn’t appear in the Illuminati universe in Doctor Strange 2? Marvel answers

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduces us to a new group of superheroes known as the Illuminati, a team that also exists in the comics but in the movies has slightly changed some of its members. All this is part of the interdimensional journey taken by Doctor Strange and America Chavez that takes them to the so-called Earth-838. But do the Avengers exist in this alternate universe? If so, what has happened to them? Recall that in the film we are told that the Illuminati were in charge of ending the threat of Thanos. Now, producer Richie Palmer of Marvel Studios reveals what has really happened to the Avengers on that Earth.

The Fate of the Avengers on Earth-838

As the Marvel producer explains, Tony Stark (as opposed to the UCM universe, Earth-616) succeeded with his Ultron project to protect Earth from otherworldly threats, so the formation of the Avengers as such no longer made sense: "We believe that on Earth-838, Wanda had some children and retired a bit. She was happy living a life with her family and didn't need to prioritize being a superhero," comments the producer about Wanda's role in this new universe.

As the Marvel producer explains, Tony Stark (as opposed to the MCU universe, Earth-616) succeeded with his Ultron project to protect Earth from otherworldly threats, so the establishment of the Avengers as such no longer made sense: "Yeah, we believe that the 838 Wanda had some children and kinda retired. She was happy living a life with her family and didn't need to prioritize being a superhero," comments the producer about Wanda's role in this new universe.

"Maybe because of the Illuminati, maybe because of some other stuff. But this is a world where Ultron seemed to work the way Tony Stark intended him to work in Age of Ultron. 'A suit of armor around the world,' Tony was trying to get the Avengers to retire in Age of Ultron. So imagine this is a world where Tony cracked Ultron, and it worked, and he went, 'Hey, whoever wants to retire and go home, can.' And then the Illuminati came to rise behind the scenes, pulling the strings, but, I think it's just a little bit of a better world for whatever reason, and Wanda was able to go and have the life that she deserved," the producer concludes.

What we are presented with is a universe in which the Avengers disbanded and the Illuminati were left as the defending group of this Earth. That is why they have Ultron sentinels as guards and the reason why there is no trace of other versions of the superheroes we all know.
