The Last of Us series for HBO gets a little closer to its premiere date
HBO Max’s chief content officer has announced a new premiere window for The Last of Us upcoming series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
Casey Bloys, HBO's chief content officer, has once again spoken out about the release date of The Last of Us in a new interview for The Hollywood Reporter. And while he didn't elaborate or give an exact date, he was more specific than usual. The series of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey could be closer than we expected and Bloys encourages us to wait for the months of January, February and March to ensure that they expect to release it "closer to early 2023."
The HBO executive producer assures that it will be a key piece in the platform's 2023. Bloys believes that by next year we will be talking about it as much as we do today about Succession (with 25 nominations in the 2022 Emmy Awards), White Lotus (20), Hacks (17 nominations) or Barry (14). Will The Last of Us series become the first video game adaptation to win a statuette?
The Last of Us' other projects
The series is not the only product on the way based on Naughty Dog's popular franchise. On September 2, a remake of the first The Last of Us will be released, which looks like the best possible way to refresh the game and have something to compare it to once the HBO fiction is released.
Since the original game came out in 2013 and was remastered in 2014, many fans are wondering if this remake is necessary. After all, not even a decade has passed since its release and there are many who think of it as a "cash grab". Nothing could be further from the truth, Naughty Dog itself has come out these days to assure that The Last of Us: Part 1 is actually the most meticulous game of its career.
"The price of the game is out of my control and worth is subjective to each individual. You can decide for yourself if you want it or not. All I’m saying is I am in awe of the work that an amazing group of people did on the project. A tremendous amount of passion was put into it," mentioned Robert Morrison, one of the animators involved in its development, now on Bend Studio.
And after the remake and the series will come the long-awaited multiplayer of The Last of Us 2, which has grown so much and has become so ambitious that its creators have decided to turn it into an independent game with its own story. It will feature new characters, revamp the Factions mode and is expected to be ready by summer 2023.
