Five Nights at Freddy's movie in the works: director and start date confirmed
Blumhouse sets a date for the start of production, assures that the wait will be worth it, and confesses that it is the movie they are asked for the most.
The Five Nights at Freddy's movie is already in the works. And yes, we know we've been saying the same thing since 2017, when it was announced, but this time it's for real. After a lustrum of rumors, good intentions and names of directors following each other in charge, now Blumhouse, the most important horror production company of the 21st century, has taken the bull by the horns and taken drastic measures. The company already has a date in mind for the beginning of the adaptation and has decided which new talent to put in charge of it.
According to reports from Variety, Blumhouse has left everything ready and the production of Five Nights at Freddy's will begin in early 2023, so hopefully, we will know about it by the end of the year, early 2024 at the latest. And the chosen director is Emma Tammi, with no more experience in the seventh art than that granted by her debut feature, The Wind. A film of the genre, of course. This is how Tammi pronounced herself on the opportunity granted:
"Stepping into the rich, terrifying world of Freddy’s alongside Scott Cawthon, Blumhouse and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is beyond thrilling”, said Tammi, and yes as you read it, the animatronics will be made by the geniuses behind The Muppets. “I cannot wait for audiences to immerse themselves in the wild and wonderful playground we are creating."
"In meeting with Emma, I felt she had a great understanding of the franchise, and really felt that she could craft something that would please the fanbase and keep people on the edge of their seats," explained franchise creator Scott Cawthon. “Five Nights at Freddy’s is more consistently asked about than any other film I’ve ever worked on, and I’m thrilled to confirm it’s finally happening! With Emma Tammi at the helm, we’re committed to making Scott’s vision of the movie come to life. Rest assured, it will be and is worth the wait,” said Jason Blum, Blumhouse CEO and founder.
What is Five Nights at Freddy's about?
Five Night at Freddy's is a horror indie created by Scott Cawthon that was released for PC in 2014 and became popular thanks to the huge amount of youtubers and streamers who recorded themselves playing it. Packed with scares and jump scares, it has a perfect format for thumbnails and video reactions. Since then, the phenomenon has not stopped growing and the saga already has six installments, three spin-offs, a virtual reality version and even three novel adaptations. An unprecedented success that made it rub shoulders with games and sagas that had millions and millions in budget.
In the first title, we took control of the security guard of a pizzeria, who has to stay in his guardhouse until six in the morning. To get through the night we had to prevent the electricity from going out and monitor everything that happens on the premises through the restaurant's security cameras. It sounds easy, but far from it, because it won't take long for five different killer animatronics to sneak into the recordings, all of them looking like stuffed animals and eager to catch us off guard. These mechanics are preserved and enhanced in the sequels, in which Freddy Bear and company return. Definitely, stuffed animals with hats and bow ties will never seem harmless again.
