Bayonetta 3: Hellena Taylor has corrected her statements about PlatinumGames’ offer
The voice actress formerly behind Bayonetta has posted an update to the controversy surrounding Platinum’s third entry to the franchise.
Hellena Taylor, the voice actress that gave life to Bayonetta in the first two games (and several other titles) has found herself involved in a bit of a controversy these past few weeks after speaking up about her exit from the character, citing an “insulting” payment offer from the studio behind the games. Now, her face-off with PlatinumGames sees a new chapter, with Taylor posting a new Twitter thread in which he goes deeper into details. Now she says the company offered her “10,000 dollars total” for her potential work on Bayonetta 3.
The Bayonetta 3 voice over plot thickens
The actress went on to defend herself from those that have attacked and harassed her following her first statement. “It has come to my attention that some people are calling me a liar and golddigger,” she wrote. “I feel the need to defend myself and my reputation in the industry”. She corrected her previous statement by revealing that the offer she received for her work was for “10,000 dollars total”, pointing at the fact that this is “a s450 million dollar franchise, (not counting merchandise).”
She recounted that she wrote in Japanese to the game’s director Hideki Kamiya asking about how much her work was worth. “I thought that as a creative, he would understand. He replied saying how much he valued my contribution to the game and how much the fans wanted me to voice the game. I was then offered an extra 5,000!” Even so, Taylor decided not to give her voice to the game.
“I then heard nothing from them for 11 months. They then offered me a flat fee to voice some lines for 4,000 dollars,” she added. “Any other lies, such as 4,000 for 5 sessions are total fabrications. There were not ‘extensive negotiations.’ I’ve also been informed of ridiculous fictions, such as I asked for 250,000 dollars. I a m a team player. I was just asking for a fair, living wage in line with the value that I bring to this game.” The actress also revealed that she was only paid £3000 for her work in the first game, and “ a little more” for the second, as well as assuring everyone that she’s always been interested in continuing to voice Bayonetta.
For now, no other further declarations have been made by any of the other parts of this controversy.
