Overwatch 2 reveals its next new hero, Ramattra, during the OW League’s finals
Overwatch 2 expands its hero lineup with a new tank. As is usual with Blizzard, the character’s presentation reveals their past and motivations.
It's quite impressive how Overwatch, a multiplayer FPS match based game without an in-game narrative (yet) has garnered such a deep lore thanks to all of the additional information the creators have written around its characters and the world. Blizzard has been doing this for a long time before the first game came out, so it wasnt difficult to empathize with the heroes from the get-go.
Ramattra, a warrior that would rather not be one
The new hero presented, a tank, narrates his story himself in his presentation video. The Omnics, his people, die to the human threat, something that Ramattra is not willing to allow.
Even though he was created for war, Ramattra chose to leave his weapons behind in the name of peace, and instead meditated. In the following trailer, you can see the situation that caused him to take up arms once again. It is only to fight their oppressors and protect his kind. As the leader of Null Sector and with full support from his people, his goal is to secure a safe future for all Omnics. As you can imagine, this will of course lead to bloodshed, but it’ll be on both sides of the war: human and omnic. The battlefield is set.
While the lack of a CGI presentation is felt, being used to the way other characters were first introduced in their own trailers, we have to admit that this motion comic style is quite impactful. Nevertheless, it still serves as a magnificent introduction to what seems to be a crucial character to the story of Overwatch.
Ramattra will join the tank roster as soon as Season 2 of Overwatch 2 begins, and that’s actually very soon. Blizzard has confirmed the new season begins on December 6, and that they can’t wait to tell us more about this warrior.
