Blizzard
Diablo 4 will have a "more of a branching story" with a beginning, middle and end
The open world of Blizzard's next game will be detached from more free-roaming experiences like that of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Blizzard Entertainment is finalizing the development of Diablo IV, an installment that has been slow-cooked and has suffered from problems within the company, which eventually led to the departure of its director and other project members. The light at the end of the tunnel already looks close and Rod Fergusson, general manager of the saga, has said in an interview with IGN that the story of the game as "more branched", although he has pointed out that its open story will unravel with a beginning, middle, and end.
"One of the concerns about putting 'open world' in a big neon sign and flashing that sign is that people have that notion of the Breath of the Wild kind of," Fergusson has said, alluding to it being a "completely organic" world where you can go "anywhere" and solve situations on your own. That's not really our story. Our story allows for non-linearity, but there is a story. We wanted to have a beginning, middle, and end. We wanted to start a certain place, we wanted to end at a certain place."
Beyond the campaign
The story will have "more of a branching," so players can choose the order of the sections that compose it. In this way, the experience will be different each time it is replayed. There will also, of course, be quests and activities that are detached from the main story.
"That's the nice thing about the open world, there's a lot of side quests, there's a lot of things in the world that you can go and do" outside of the campaign. " the fact that the golden path is a branching path that you can decide when" to go through them and in what order. Because the world was "too dense," the team had to reduce content and connect paths between areas well.
Diablo IV will be released the next year 2023 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Blizzard Entertainment's title still has no concrete date, although it has recently been leaked that it will be released in April, according to sources consulted by Windows Central.
