God of War Ragnarok: how to change armor appearance but keep its stats

God of War: Ragnarök has been out for barely a few days, already squeezing all of the PS4 and PS5’s power to show us a high level visual spectacle, thanks in great part to the imposing look and the presence of its protagonist, Kratos.

Just as we could in the past entry of the saga, you can edit how the Ghost of Sparta looks through the use of equipment such as armor, gauntlets, and belts, each with unique properties and upgraded stats. But it's also true that some of the mightier armors have quite peculiar appearances, and sometimes that doesn’t click so well with the players. Thankfully, there’s a small trick we can use to dress up Kratos as we please.

This is how you change Kratos armors’ looks

At no point in time did Santa Monica Studio let it be known that there is a transmogrification system implemented in the game, but you can still find it if you pay attention to the menus. However, you do have one very specific requisite before you can even see this option. Let’s take a look at how you can change the visuals of every detail of your armor for any other you have in your inventory.

The main prerequisite you have to accomplish before you can edit the appearance of Kratos’ pieces of armor is to upgrade each piece to the maximum level, meaning, you have to reach level 9 of each piece you’re using. Once you manage to do that, when you select it in the Armor menu you’ll see the Square Button icon alongside the “Edit Appearance” command.

When you do so, you get to choose the appearance of any other piece of armor of the same category that you’ve unlocked in the inventory, while keeping the upgraded stats and perks of the original piece. A lot of players will want to keep Kratos’ original appearance while using the strongest and most powerful pieces in the game. You can do it like this.
