Santa Monica Studio

God of War Ragnarök’s creators are already working on “ a lot of different things”

Cory Barlog, one of the heads at Santa Monica Studio, has revealed that the developer is spread out on different projects now that God of War Ragnarok has been released.

Update:
God of War Ragnarök’s creators are already working on “ a lot of different things”

Kratos and Atreus continue their journeys in the nordic lands of God of War Ragnarök. Meanwhile, Santa Monica Studio looks towards the future, although we still don’t know what projects they’re working on. Cory Barlog, director of God of War (2018), producer of the sequel and head of the PlayStation Studios developer, has revealed during a Los Angeles Times interview that the studio is currently “spread out on a lot of different things.”

As is to be expected, the journalist conducting the interview tried to get more information out of Barlog, but he didn’t cave in and kept all the details under wraps. The timing of these kinds of announcements are typically handled with precision, with studios only announcing their games (ideally) when they believe they’re ready for it. Although, leaks do tend to be a problem.

In the past, the studio collaborated with other developers to publish independent titles like Journey and The Order 1866.

Darkside, Santa Monica Studio’s canceled science fiction game

Santa Monica Studio worked for a while on Darkside, a science fiction title set in the near future, the year 2034. Using rpg, action and driving mechanics, the title was to offer wide degrees of exploration on different planets through an open world filled with diverse creatures. Unfortunately, production ended with everything being scrapped. In other words, it was simply canceled.

God of War Ragnarök closes up the nordic arc of the saga starring the God of War. Kratos travels alongside his son in a new adventure where battles and exploration are a plenty. Developed for PS4 and PS5, the title has been lauded internationally. It is now one of the Game of the Year contenders for The Game Awards 2022, the celebration organized and presented by Geoff Keighley that’ll take place on December 8.
