Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now allows you to pick and choose items in personalized races

How many times have you told your friends that blue shells are the worst in Mario Kart? Have you ever imagined a race in which you can ONLY throw blue shells? Stop having nightmares, because we have some news. Over five years after its release, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has just released a new free update with which you can customize items per race, both in online and offline races.

Now you can play with only the items that were available in the original Super Mario Kart, or make a Bullet Bill duel race. Say goodbye to turbos, or lightning bolts that shrink you. What the heck, go back to the good old days and get rid of coins. The possibilities are endless. Here’s a few examples:

Wave 3 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass

This new update comes alongside the release of the third paid DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is out today December 7 and adds 8 extra courses from the 48 total that came with the base game, and the 16 of the first two packs. This is the third wave out of six, and with which the Nintendo game will fall short of 100 tracks. Truly, this is the definitive Mario Kart game.

These DLC packs can be obtained as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass, or you can keep it forever for $24.99. These are all of the new tracks coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, amongst which you can find Maple Treeway from the Wii and Peach Gardens from the DS.

  • Maple Treeway ( Wii)
  • Rainbow Road (3DS)
  • Boo Lake (GBA)
  • Berlin Byways (Mario Kart Tour)
  • Rock Rock Mountain (3DS)
  • Peach Gardens (Wii)
  • London Loop (Mario Kart Tour)
  • Merry Mountain (Mario Kart Tour)
