Elden Ring crowned Game of the Year during The Game Awards 2022

The verdict is out, and it was loud and clear: Elden Ring has risen above every other game and it’s been named as Game of the Year during The Game Awards 2022. The GOTY award comes back to FromSoftware only two years after Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice managed to sweep it’s respective competition. Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, this title has been considered a masterpiece by almost every critic of the industry. Besides, it’s also been an enormous commercial success.

With 17.5 million copies sold, players’ journey through the Lands Between is still not over. The Japanese Studio has just released a free update that introduces the Colosseum, a competitive PvP mode that’ll bring endless battles for glory. The mysterious buildings in Limgrave, Caelid and Leyndell have now opened their gates, and contenders will duke it out in duels, free for all, team fights, and more.

God of War Ragnarök and the rest of the nominees

Kratos and Atreus added a new chapter to their viking epic with God of War Ragnarök, a direct sequel to the 2018 game available on PS4 and PS5. A couple of years have passed since father and son fought against the nordic gods, but the situation seems to be getting more dire by the second. Atreus, consumed by his doubts, searches for answers everywhere he can. In the end, both will journey once again through the Nine Realms to figure out their destiny… and get involved unwillingly in a couple of fights.

The Santa Monica Studios game was just updated with a new Photo Mode, which also comes alongside a wide variety of patches.

Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarök were probably the two strongest candidates for the award, but the other nominees also deserve attention: Horizon Forbidden West (Guerrilla Games), A Plague Tale: Requiem (Asobo Studio), Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (Monolith) and Stray (Blue Twelve Studio).
