Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO is getting two new sizes for its creatures: XXL and XXS

The new XXL and XXS sizes have arrived to Pokémon GO. Now, your Pokémon can be either humongous or miniature. We’ll give you all of the details about it.

Update:
Pokémon GO is getting two new sizes for its creatures: XXL and XXS

Pokémon GO has now made available two new size categories for our Pokémon: XXS and XXL. Underneath, we’ll show you how the new changes look and what is new about these big and small Pokémon, and how to find them.

What are the new miniature and huge Pokémon like?

Since Thursday, December 8 2022, it became possible to run into Pokémon of size XXS and XXL in Pokémon GO. This means that Wild Pokémon you encounter can be unusually small or big. This is already active in the game, and there are no extra steps needed to activate it. You simply need to keep your game updated, no matter if you’re an Android or iOS user.

To celebrate this curious update, for the first few days you’ll encounter many more Poochyena, Myghtyena, and Mawile than usual. They will also have increased chances of being Shiny.

This size difference is visible in the game, and can be appreciated better through this comparative chart:

Something else that is new is the fact that, when you capture at least three creatures of a certain species, your PokéDex will be updated to show what your records are, including largest size, smallest, heavier and lighter one of every Pokémon of that species you’ve captured.

The game will even let you know if you found an XXS or XXL Pokémon when you encounter a wild one:

There is also a small animation to celebrate a new record whenever you capture a new one that surpasses whichever was your previous record.

This Pokémon GO update is mainly an aesthetic one, but since you’re able to transfer your Pokémon to Pokémon HOME in order to use them in other titles of the franchise, there’s some more gameplay incentive to capturing these. For example, certain moves like Low Kick deal more damage the heavier the target Pokémon is. And the larger the Pokémon, the heavier.
