Xbox didn’t announce anything during The Game Awards 2022, but promises next year will be full of surprises

The marketing lead promises followers they won’t have to wait long to find out about Xbox’s upcoming news.

Update:
Xbox didn’t announce anything during The Game Awards 2022, but promises next year will be full of surprises

Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division in Microsoft, was present during The Game Awards 2022. However, the company was merely a part of the audience during the show. With no big announcements made during the gala, some voices have risen to criticize their silence. This is why Aaron Greenberg, head of marketing at Xbox, has tried to calm down the fans and said on Twitter that Xbox has some surprises prepared.

“We have a lot planned to show and share about an incredibly exciting year ahead for 2023,” said Greenberg. “Appreciate folks are eager to learn and see more. Timing is always key, but don’t worry you will not have to wait too long for what’s next from us.”

Let’s not forget that Starfield and Redfall, both titles by Bethesda, are still set for release during 2023, although they still lack a specific launch date. In the meantime Microsoft revealed a price hike for their first party titles.

The Game Awards wasn’t immune to leaks

Sometimes they’re wrong, but they’re always there. Leaks at the last moment kill hype and reveal information before it’s supposed to be public. Geoff Keghley knows first-hand about this, like when PlayStation leaked itself the existence of The Last of Us Part I before it was announced during the show, which was what was planned.

The Game Awards has also been left without its surprises, although this time there weren’t any big hitters. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor confirmed its presence in the show even when its release date had been previously revealed (March 15). Something similar happened to Street Fighter 6, which will come to stores on June 2 with three different editions (Standard, Deluxe, and Collectors).

The third game that was subject to leaks is a Square Enix title that had already been set in stone to reveal something big during TGA 2022. Final Fantasy XIV, timed exclusive to the PS5 for at least 6 months, will debut on June 22, 2023.

Beyond the World Premieres and live concerts, TGA 2022 is an award show. This time, the nominees to Game of the Year were Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarök, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Stray, Horizon Forbidden West, and A Plague Tale: Requiem. The winner? The Hidetaka Miyazaki directed game.
