Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood finally has an official opening date
The Mushroom Kingdom finally opens its gates for visitors at Universal Studios, with Super Nintendo World coming way sooner than you think.
Nintendo has officially confirmed that Super Nintendo World, the Mario themed zone inside Universal Studios Hollywood in California, is opening it’s doors on February 17, 2923.
Posted on the official Nintendo of America Twitter account, the reveal of the opening date comes alongside a quick video showcasing what we can expect from the new section of the park. From restaurants and merchandise, to a huge Augmented Reality attraction in which you hop on a kart and race alongside your favorite characters through Bowser’s castle.
Universal Studios also posted the announcement with the following description: “SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™ takes you into the world of Super Mario™. Battle Team Bowser on the groundbreaking Mario Kart™ ride. Play interactive games throughout the land and track your score with a Power-Up Band™. Dine at Toadstool Cafe™, meet Mario and friends, and purchase exclusive merch at the 1-UP Factory™ store. Opens at Universal Studios Hollywood 2/17/2023”
The future of Super Nintendo World
For those of you that have been following the construction of these Nintendo parks since they were announced a few years ago, this park will look very familiar to the one that opened in Universal Studios Japan. Apart from the obvious translations (for example, Toads are called Kinopio in Japanese), this new version of the theme park looks to be as exciting and detailed as the Osaka one.
As of this moment, the parks only have a Mario theme with it being a representation of the Mushroom Kingdom. But we do know that both Nintendo and Universal have plans to expand the park in big ways: a Donkey Kong area is set to open in 2024 in Japan, while The Pokémon Company has already signed a deal to bring Pokémon themed attractions around the world. On a personal level, we would love to one day see and ride on a Star Fox themed rollercoaster, perhaps one that is in-doors, full of lights and music from the games, and tons of barrel rolls all over the place, of course.
