Japan has chosen their favorite Final Fantasy title and character, with a surprising result
An official survey to Japanese Final Fantasy fans has revealed what their favorite title in the series is, as well as their favorite characters.
Final Fantasy’s 35th anniversary has taken the Japanese audiences to choose what their favorite entry of the franchise is, and who they think are the greatest characters of the franchise. With over three decades of video games to choose from spread amongst several console generations, the question in many people’s heads is who would be the absolute winner. The answer? It’s neither Final Fantasy VII, nor Cloud.
For fans in Japan, the greatest title in the series is Final Fantasy XIV, the MMORPG produced by Naoki Yoshida. Its rocky start has already been redeemed, and from A Realm Reborn onwards it’s become one of the best games of the genre. This is why it’s not such a surprise that the most popular character comes from said game: Emet-Selch, one of the most outstanding villains of the game remembered for his involvement in Stormblood.
The list of games only counts the top 10 favorite games of the fans, although the character list does expand to the top 20. Here they are in full:
