Every Marvel game for 2023 and beyond: Spider-Man 2, Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine…
Let’s take a look at every Marvel video game that’s on the way, from Insomniac super productions to the mysterious projects by Niantic and Amy Hennig.
These first few days of the year are always the best of times to look forward into the horizon. It’s time to look at our calendar and figure out what our next hype focus is going to be. New projects, promises, objectives, and things to come to which to hold on to in this new year. For fans of the Marvel Multiverse, it’s something real easy to do this time since adaptations of their characters are currently undergoing a golden age. Video Games from the House of Ideas are getting better and better, and we can’t wait to get our hands on some of the titles that are on the way. Don’t know what’s coming? Join us in reviewing every Marvel game coming in 2023 and beyond.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
We begin with one of the year’s most wanted titles, the sequel to the Marvel game that changed everything for the company's presence in video games and has allowed us to see higher quality productions and not so many mediocre products. The bar is set pretty high and we know very little, but it looks like we’re getting Venom as a main villain and we’ll be able to play as both Peter and Miles (hinting at a co-op mode perhaps?) Sony has talked about it as its big game for the end of 2023, and Insomniac compares it to The Empire Strikes Back because, according to the developer, it’ll be “massive” and “a little bit darker”.
Marvel World of Heroes
The creators of Pokemon GO are still going strong. Niantic continues to seek its next AR hit, and Marvel is up next as the vehicle to try again. The company is preparing a new game in which you’ll once again use your mobile devices to interact with your environment, picking up superpowers and joining forces with other heroes as we explore the world. As always, it’ll be free to play with plenty of events and situations that’ll put you face to face with Marvel’s pantheon of superheroes.
Black Panther and Captain America
It may not be the most intriguing project compared to the rest of the list, but we’re talking about a multi-hero game.Skydance is working on an as-of-yet untitled game in which you’ll be able to play as Steve Rogers (in the beginning of his career as Captain America), Azzuri (Black Panther and grandfather of T’Challa), Gabe Jones (of the Howling Commandos), and Nanali (leader of the Wakandan spy network). An unexpected team that’ll go through an adventure set in World War II. We don’t know much about the game except for the fact that Amy Hennig, creator of Uncharted and Legacy of Kain, is behind it.
Marvel’s Iron Man
Motive Studio has become one of EA’s biggest studios in the past few years. After Star Wars: Battlefront II and Squadrons, the developer is finishing up on the Dead Space remake, and after that launch they’ll dive fully into the development of Marvel’s Iron Man. It’s a new 3rd person action adventure single player game that’ll “tell an original story that’ll focus on the hero’s universe and will aim to use the charisma, complexity, and creative genius of a character like Tony Stark.” in this adaptation, the focus seems to be on the narrative, which isn’t a big surprise since Motive Studio will have the help of Olivier Proulx, executive producer of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Marvel’s Wolverine
And we finish up the list with Wolverine. After some great work with Spider-Man, Marvel wanted Insomniac to be the ones in charge of bringing back everyone’s favorite mutant to the world of video games after over a decade in limbo. While it won’t be the studio’s priority until after the release of Spider-Man 2, development is already in progress and we might even see it in 2024. There’s almost no details out in the wild as of yet, but they’ve promised a “mature tone” and confirmed that the story is being written by Walt Willams, who wrote the script for Spec Ops: The Line.
