Pokémon GO welcomes the 2023 Lunar New Year event in January 2023, bringing many Pokémon themed to this season. In this Pokémon GO guide, we share all the event details, including dates, times and how to participate.

Lunar New Year event in Pokémon GO: dates, times and how to participate

The Lunar New Year event in Pokémon GO starts Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. to Monday, January 23, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time. It is a free event for all players.

During the event, the Timed Research: Lucky Wishes will take place. It will be free for all players, and we will have different ways to advance, which will give us access to different rewards. There will be three different paths: hatching Eggs, increasing the duration of the Daily Adventure Incense or obtaining more Stardust. As a reward, there will be a Lucky Egg and other items, as well as the opportunity to capture Magikarp (could be Shiny), Azumarill, Combusken, Darumaka (could be Shiny), Galarian Darumaka (could be Shiny) and Bunnelby (could be Shiny).

These are the Wild Pokémon available during the 2023 Lunar New Year event in Pokémon GO:

  • Ponyta (there is a chance it could be Shiny)
  • Magmar (there is a chance it could be Shiny)
  • Magikarp (there is a chance it could be Shiny)
  • Slugma (there is a chance it could be Shiny)
  • Numel (there is a chance it could be Shiny)
  • Combee (there is a chance it could be Shiny)
  • Buneary (there is a chance it could be Shiny)
  • Fennekin (there is a chance it could be Shiny)
  • Bunnelby (there is a chance it could be Shiny)
  • Flareon

Pokémon GO 2023 Lunar New Year Event Bonus

These are the event bonuses available during the 2023 Lunar New Year event in Pokémon GO. For completing the Timed Research: Lucky Wishes, we will be able to choose which bonuses we prefer:

  • Increased chance to encounter Shiny Darumaka!
  • Increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
  • One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of two per day.
  • Increased chance for Lucky Pokémon in trades.
  • 2× Stardust from opening Gifts.

Pokémon available in Raids during the 2023 Lunar New Year in Pokémon GO

These are the Pokémon from Raids that are available during the 2023 Lunar New Year in Pokémon GO:

  • One-Star Raids: Voltorb de Hisui, Shinx (there is a chance it could be Shiny), Darumaka (there is a chance it could be Shiny) y Galarian Darumaka (there is a chance it could be Shiny).
  • Three-Star Raids: Flareon, Shuckle (there is a chance it could be Shiny), Blaziken (there is a chance it could be Shiny), Druddigon (there is a chance it could be Shiny) y Diggersby.
  • Mega Raids: Mega Lopunny (there is a chance it could be Shiny).
  • Five-Star Raids: Regice (there is a chance it could be Shiny).

Pokémon available by hatching Eggs during Pokémon GO's New Year 2023 event

These are the Pokémon from Eggs that we will be able to get if we hatch them during the New Year 2023 event of Pokémon GO:

  • 7 km eggs: Chingling, Riolu (there is a possibility that it is Shiny), Darumaka (there is a possibility that it is Shiny), Galarian Darumaka (there is a possibility that it is Shiny) and Scraggy.

Pokémon with Field Research tasks during 2023 Lunar New Year in Pokémon GO

During the 2023 Lunar New Year event, we will be able to encounter the following Pokémon by completing Field Research tasks:

  • Charmander (there is a chance it could be Shiny).
  • Paras (there is a chance it could be Shiny).
  • Cyndaquil (there is a chance it could be Shiny).
  • Torchic (there is a chance it could be Shiny).
