Update:
Official: Matt Reeves already working on The Batman 2 and will soon shoot the Penguin spin-off series

The Batman 2 -provisional title- has already entered the screenwriting phase. This has been confirmed by its own director and screenwriter Matt Reeves, assuring that the script of the sequel starring Robert Pattinson, again as the Dark Knight, is already being written, not without adding that he is very excited to work again with the actor. In addition, he has also stated that soon -imminently- he will start shooting the Penguin series, a spin-off for HBO Max starring Colin Farrell, who will reprise his role in The Batman to tell us what happens to his character after the events of the first film. This was reported by Collider after interviewing the filmmaker.

The Batman 2 script is already starting to take shape

Reeves, who released the first installment of his own Batman universe almost a year ago, has assured that he has already started working on the script for its sequel. Collider's reporter, in a chat with Reeves, claims that at first he didn't want to talk about The Batman 2, though he quickly let loose a bit:

“I'm not going to answer that question, but we are working on a movie. I'll put it to you that way," though he later revealed, "We're deep in it and my partner and I are writing, Mattson [Tomlin] and I are writing, and it's really exciting, and I'm really excited about what we're doing." Recall that Tomlin also worked with Reeves on the script for The Batman.

In addition, Reeves says he feels "really excited to be doing that with Rob [Pattinson], because I just think he's such a special person and actor.” Of course, at the moment there is no release window for The Batman 2, so we will still have to wait to see it; maybe in 2024? On the other hand, the filmmaker has also confirmed that "we are very, very soon going to start shooting The Penguin with Colin. That is super exciting.”

In addition, the filmmaker doesn't rule out that other projects related to his own Batman universe may come up: "The BatVerse of what we're doing has me very, very excited, and I'm very passionate about it. So I'm excited. There's actually a whole little fabric of things we're wanting to do, the way we're doing with [the] Penguin and how that comes back into how that will lead into the sequel, and what that sequel is going to be,” Reeves concludes.
