Assassin's Creed Mirage was motivated by fans' desire for a game closer to the franchise's roots
The game's director explains that part of the community wanted to enjoy a more compact and narrative experience, just like in the originals.
The next game in the Assassin's Creed franchise takes a long, hard look at the past. Assassin's Creed Mirage has been built on the foundations of the original, so it delves into its three main pillars: assassinations, stealth, and parkour. In an interview with GamesRadar, creative director Sthéphane Boudon revealed that this decision was made largely because of the players themselves.
"Mirage’s creation has been the convergence of several inputs,” Boudon said. “Of course, the first one comes from our community: Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla they are all great games with the promise to live an epic journey in a strong fantasy. Their scopes have been calibrated to fulfill those ambitions" with RPG-like mechanics.
A clear message from the community
"But amongst our fans, we started hearing the desire" for Ubisoft to develop a game more “focused on the core pillars of the first ACs in a more intimate scale." According to the director, they began cementing the project with those ideas in mind.
"With its more condensed scope and clear focus on Basim and his coming-of-age story, our main goal with Mirage is to provide a total immersion in 9th Century Baghdad and the key events of the time for the Hidden Ones. We wanted this game to be a standalone that everyone could enjoy."
Assassin's Creed Mirage still has no concrete release date on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC, although it will be released sometime in 2023. Despite being born as an expansion for Valhalla - Basim is one of the characters in that game - Ubisoft confirmed that it became a standalone project just a few weeks after development began.
The French have just announced the sixth delay of Skull and Bones, as well as the cancellation of three unannounced games.
