Only yesterday, there was only five movies in the history of cinema that had managed to go above 2 billion dollars in revenue. From a few hours ago, now there’s six, and three of them carry his name. Avatar: The Way of Water just joined the club of which it’s predecessor and Titanic are already part of. How far up will it continue to climb?

What’s next in the future of Avatar?

The gargantuan budget that Avatar: The Way of Water had comes justified by the fact that James Cameron shot both this entry and part of the next ones at the same time. The director didn’t want the younger characters to grow up too much between each sequel, so he protected himself by shooting additional material to be used in the future. After the success of the second film, the upcoming continuations have been greenlit and we won’t have to wait too much to see them, unlike the first and second films (13 years of waiting). This is their tentative release dates:

  • Avatar 3: The Seed Bearer (December 20, 2024)
  • Avatar 4: The Tulkun Rider (December 18, 2026)
  • Avatar 5: The Quest for Eywa (December 22, 2028)
