Hi-Fi Rush, a new rhythm hack-and-slash game by the creators of The Evil Within, is out today

Tango Gameworks, creators of Ghostwire: Tokyo and The Evil Within franchise, have just revealed and released a new cel shaded action game on Xbox Game Pass.

Update:
Hi-Fi Rush, a new rhythm hack-and-slash game by the creators of The Evil Within, is out today

A small leak that turned out to be a huge truth. Hi-Fi Rush is a brand new production by Tango Gameworkds, revealed during Xbox and BEthesda’s Developer_Direct showcase. Unlike the rest of the titles made by the studio, this one distances itself from survival horror and embraces a colorful and fun hack and slash action adventure. You can see more of the game in action in the video below, but this crazy surprise for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass has an animated cartoon style. Oh, and it also releases today January 25, 2023.

Music and fighting mix well in Hi-Fi Rush, where you get a higher rating if you manage to synchronize your hits with the music of the level. As if it was a rhythm game, battles against (literal) bosses have you trying to follow the melody and attacking in the right moment to actually have a chance of defeating them.

Tango Gameworks’ leak has been known for a while

A few weeks ago, user Billbil-kun posted a leak that detailed the existence of the new Tango Gameworks game. “A new game from Bethesda x Tango Gameworks will be announced (and/or released) soon (probably in Xbox & Bethesda Developer_Direct event),” he wrote. “Name of the game : Hi-Fi RUSH (Project Hibiki) Will come in Standard and Deluxe Edition Game is rated ESRB Teen (PEGI 12)”

The studio founded by Shinji Mikami, father of the Resident Evil franchise, debuted in 2014 with the release of The Evil Within, an action horror game that managed to be popular enough to get an amazing sequel. As for Ghostwire: Tokyo, it’s a game that takes place in the heart of Tokyo, invaded and filled with ghosts and mythological creatures, where you must battle in first person using magic and weapons to survive.

In an interview with Famitsu last year, Mikami mentioned that “John Johanas, who directed the DLC for The Evil Within and The Evil Within 2, is working on a completely new title that is the complete opposite of horror.” He also said that the studio had been heavily identified as a survival horror company, so he hoped that people could see them as “a studio that can create a wider variety of games”
