Hi-Fi Rush is Bethesda’s best game since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, according to Metacritic

Tango Gameworks’ surprise game triumphs over the rest of the company’s library, with critics praising and lifting it above the competition on Metacritic.

Update:
Hi-Fi Rush is Bethesda’s best game since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, according to Metacritic

We’re still in the month of February, and we’ve already had some huge surprises in this 2023. And big surprise it is, given that an amazing game was announced and released (and put on Game Pass) in just a few hours. Hi-Fi Rush’s quality has placed it as one of the highest rated titles of the year, and in the process it’s managed to surpass almost every other game Bethesda has published in the past 12 years, at least when comparing its average score on Metacritic.

We’re talking about none other than the big 2011 launch of the titan now known as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which hovers around the 95/100 average score, depending on the version of the game. Meanwhile, Hi-Fi Rush has earned an average of 89, just below some of the greatest titles there are, but also above a whole lot of other great games.

Hi-Fi Rush beats Bethesda’s catalog

Let’s take a look at some of the most distinguished Bethesda games and their average scores from the past ten years:

  • Fallout: New Vegas - 84
  • The Evil Within 2: 82
  • Dishonored 2: 88
  • Prey: 79
  • Fallout 4: 87
  • DOOM: 85

As you can see, Bethesda’s biggest titles from the past decade are nothing to scoff at, and we left out games like DOOM Eternal, Ghostwire Tokyo, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and the first Dishonored. Tango Gameworks has shown once again that they’re more than capable of leaving their comfort zone of horror themes, and after The Evil Within and sequel, and the previously mentioned Ghostwire Tokyo, we’ve got a rhythm Hack-and-Slash that is incredibly good.

“Hi-Fi Rush is a special game, very measured when talking about mechanics and perfectly balanced in everything it offers,” said our friends from Meristation Spain in their review. “You smile at the start and never stop doing so until finishing it. Dynamic and varied, it’s a mix of hack and slash and musical game that’s amazing in every moment, in which the rhythm never stops and is well paired with a vibrant style, capable of standing out not just in looks, but in performance.”
