Minecraft will receive the Archaeologist career as part of v 1.20
Mojang's game continues to expand with new possibilities, this time with a new career that will let us explore the deserts to dig and brush.
Minecraft fans will soon be able to dust off their fedora on their favorite server, as the archaeologist career has been announced for Mojang's game as part of the 1.20 update.
In a post on the official blog, it was revealed that this new career will be available soon, and that players will be able to test it before its launch through betas, snapshots, and previews that will arrive "very soon". Originally, this feature was announced in 2020 but has been postponed during the many updates that have been released over the years.
A new exploration in Minecraft
The Archaeologist career, or M'archeologist as it is nicknamed on the blog, will send us to the desert to dig and explore. As expected, this update will also add new elements to enjoy these new features. With the help of a new tool, the brush, we will be able to go to the deserts to look for a new type of block called suspicious sand. This block, when carefully brushed, will reveal what is hidden inside, from random objects to the new pottery shards. When you collect four of these pieces, you will receive a pot. Just like in real archaeology.
Initially, this update will send Minecraft players only to deserts to dig near temples, however, and as its developers explain "more dig site areas will be added" based on user feedback, adding new areas to explore.
Minecraft 1.20, coming spring 2023
Mojang gave us a first look at the 1.20 update in October 2022. In this first look, they showed us elements like bamboo as a new building material, hanging signs, and camels that can be ridden by two players at the same time. However, as announced in his presentation, these creatures will not be part of our archaeological excavations, as they will not have their own inventory. For now, we will have to wait for version 1.20, which will be released in the spring of 2023.
