Minecraft Update 1.20, learn about the new features coming soon
Archaeology, sniffing, and even Valentine's Day-worthy items.
The Minecraft Java snapshot for Minecraft Java will be released this Wednesday, February 15th, with the new features coming with the 1.20 update, which will also be available in the next Minecraft Bedrock preview on a date to be confirmed. Check out what's coming in this update:
Archaeology
As anticipated last week, the long-awaited feature set that was originally revealed during Minecraft Live 2020 and then postponed will officially arrive in Minecraft with the latest update. This feature will include several features that will add a greater sense of mystery to players' survival worlds.
With Archaeology, players will find a new type of sand near desert temples. Using a new tool called the Brush, players will be able to remove suspicious blocks of sand to reveal hidden tools, bones, sniffer eggs, and pottery shards. These new pottery shards contain partial patterns and can be assembled with four others to create a patterned vessel that tells a unique story.
Sniffer
The winner of the 2022 Minecraft Live mob vote will arrive in the Overworld. The ancient creature has returned from the brink of extinction. Sniffer eggs will be available at new archaeological sites near desert temples. Players will also be able to hatch the newly unearthed egg into a baby Sniffer that will grow into the giant Sniffer. The new monster will be able to "sniff" seeds, which can be turned into unique decorative plants.
Cherry Blossom Biome
And Valentine's Day has not been left out of Minecraft, as with the new Cherry Blossom biome we will be able to have trees with pink hues, "like fluffy pink clouds". These new trees can also be broken down and made into a full wood set, including the new hanging signs. It is important to note that you can find Cherry Tree seedlings in the biome, so you can plant them wherever you want.
