Even though the 2019 reboot didn't pan out, the big screen isn't done with Hellboy. The anti-hero will come back to life on the big screen with a third reboot that erases David Harbour's version from our memory and hopefully doesn't make us yearn more for that of Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro. And although it is unknown who the red demon will be this time, we do already have a name for the man who will direct it from behind the cameras.Brian Taylor has been chosen for this fourth Hellboy movie even though his latest theatrical credit dates back to Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. (The 2012 film starring Nicolas Cage that received an 18 rating on Rotten Tomatoes.)
Filming will begin in April in Bulgaria and the production of the film is currently in the casting process.. Although the title and plot have not been confirmed, the rumors all point in the same direction. The movie would be called Hellboy: The Crooked Man and would adapt the miniseries of the same name, launched in 2011 and with a total of three issues. In the story, set in 1956, Hellboy visited a corner of the mountains of West Virginia where a certain Tom lived, a man who had sold his soul to the demon known as The Crooked Man and who now wanted it back. That is to say, if it does happen to be an adaptation of this story, we’ll be left again without seeing the BPRD (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense), perhaps in a new attempt to break with the image so marked by comics and del Toro's adaptations. We will see.
Hellboy will also return to video games
While waiting to find out who Hellboy will be this time on the silver screen, we remind you that our favorite half demon also has a new video game on the way and it seems like a proper homage to the work of Mike Mignola. We’re talking about Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, an action adventure game with roguelite elements whose story has been written by Mignola himself. The game will arrive on time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the character this 2023, and will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Take a look at its spectacular art style:
