The newest entry into the brutal Mortal Kombat series by NetherRealm might have just been revealed, after an image was uploaded and quickly deleted.

Update:
Warner Bros. accidentally reveals Mortal Kombat 12 to be launched this year

The fighting genre will have a new contender in 2023. Or several, rather. In addition to Street Fighter 6, which was shown at State of Play on February 23, NetherRealm prepares the return of one of the most beloved fighting franchises. During an investor meeting, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, has confirmed that Mortal Kombat 12 will be released this year.

“There’s lots more to come, including the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections,” he said.

NetherRealm already leaked it in a tweet

Despite the fact that neither the co-creator of the saga Ed Boon nor NetherRealm have spoken openly about Mortal Kombat 12, the studio let it slip a few weeks ago. Jonathan Andersen, senior production manager of the developer, posted a photograph of his desk on Twitter. In addition to various art from Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Injustice 2,on his screen you could read MK12_Mast, something that was not overlooked by the players.

Did he do it consciously or by accident? Who knows. After 10 minutes, the photo had disappeared from Andersen's Twitter, but it was already too late: the media had echoed it and the news was already going through social networks.

Mortal Kombat 11, the most recent installment, is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Nintendo Switch. The game has received numerous post-launch content since its arrival on the market.

Warner Bros. Games started the year with the huge success of Hogwarts Legacy. Their next big release is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, from the creators of Batman: Arkham. Rocksteady shared new details during the recent State of Play.
