The Evil Within 2: the best presentation card a young talent can make
We bring you a big recommendation for those looking for something to play, and it’s the debut game of Hi-Fi Rush’s director.
The departure of a personality like Shinji Mikami would make anyone think that the future of Tango Gameworks - studio that he himself founded- would not exactly paint well. The developer’s resume makes it clear that we are not talking about just anyone: we are talking about a legend with games like Resident Evil, Dino Crisis or Vanquish, among others, behind him. But he knows that he is leaving behind someone capable of carrying out projects as diverse as the recent Hi-Fi Rush or the game we’re talking about today, The Evil Within 2.
Mikami served as director of the first installment, a game that, while notable, had an uneven development with clear ups and downs throughout the adventure, including waves of enemies that did not fit with what a horror game was supposed to be.The Evil Within was, while not a bad game at all, a fit of misunderstood genius for better and for worse. But during its development, Mikami must have seen something in a young John Johanas to place him in the role of director of the sequel.
Although Mikami was still present in the role of producer, Johanas took the reins of the project, giving it greater coherence. We are talking, this time, about a more traditional survival horror, although not without its peculiarities that make it special and for which we recommend it today strongly. There are no more far fetched plot connections, there are no sections of excessive action... Now Sebastian Castellanos has to watch his ammunition, hide from his enemies - with stealth mechanics surprisingly well implemented -, and face a good number of bosses and a tremendously charismatic antagonist in the form of Stefano Valentini.
In addition, and although it was not the first time -Silent Hill Downpour tried with less success-, we enjoyed an open environment where we could explore in search of resources, but all without losing the original spirit of the genre.
Why play it?
Where to find it?
We are talking about a relatively recent game, so it is not difficult to find it either in physical or digital format for any of the platforms on which it is available: PS4, Xbox One -in Game Pass- and PC. It can also be enjoyed on PS5 and Xbox Series thanks to the backward compatibility of both.
