Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s director is aiming for a trilogy

Stig Asmussen has hinted at the possibility of the Star Wars Jedi series becoming a trilogy, even suggesting the next game would be made with Unreal Engine 5.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s director is aiming for a trilogy

Stig Asmussen, director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor wants a third game starring Cal Kestis. Although to this day the final episode of the trilogy has not been announced, let alone confirmed, the creative has suggested in an interview with IGN that if the next game sells well it is possible that it will materialize in the future. Besides, he also revealed that this hypothetical third installment would use Unreal Engine 5 instead of Unreal Engine 4.

Even before Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released, the studio was thinking about the next games in the series: “We were already talking about the second game.I mean, frankly, we were talking beyond.”

Three stories for Cal Kestis

Asmussen opened up and said that He "always wanted to see this as a trilogy." They wondered how they could take Cal and his crew to places that were new and different from the first game. “We had a pretty decent idea of timeframe where we wanted Survivor to take place, what the stakes were going to be, what the tone o the game was going to be, what Cal was going to be up against, and how the crew was going to factor into that. And there's ideas of what we could do beyond that as well."

If a third game does get to be developed, everything seems to indicate that Respawn Entertainment will choose to use Unreal Engine 5 instead of the previous version of the engine, with which both Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor are built: "I think that's a pretty safe assumption."

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will go on sale on April 28 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. The game takes place several years after the events of the previous title, so the tyranny of the Galactic Empire has intensified. Set at the same time as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Cal Kestis will face the emperor’s forces once again.
