The Last of Us: Bella Ramsey says the season finally will divide the fans

With only two episodes left before the end of The Last of Us, the series that adapts Naughty Dog’s video game for HBO Max, lead actress Bella Ramsey stated that the season finale will further divide the public, in reference to the controversy unleashed by a certain part of the audience. This has been confirmed by the actress behind Ellie in live-action to Vogue magazine during her attendance to Paris Fashion Week. In addition, Ramsey warns of the ultraviolent nature of the season finale, especially of the eighth episode, which we will see this Sunday. Please be aware of spoilers for the ending of The Last of Us from the next paragraph onwards.

A shocking end to the journey

As The Last of Us players will know, the ending of the first title that originally appeared on PS3 and that later made the leap to PS4 and PS5 with a remaster and remake respectively is considered one of the most impactful and unexpected sequences that we can remember in a video game. And Bella Ramsey warns: “It's going to divide people massively.”

Full screen

The wait to find out if Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have made any big changes to the ending of the story in their tv adaptation in regards to the video game is exciting. For those that didn’t get the chance to witness it firsthand with any version of the original Naughty Dog game, this part of the story will feel like a rough and cruel gut punch. Will they add any references to the sequel at the end of the series through that very specific character many people have been waiting for? We won’t know for sure until the final episode is released.

On the other hand, Ramsey also talked about the penultimate episode, which will be released this Sunday, in which a group of cannibals kidnaps Ellie. She’s warned that this one will be especially violent: “It was… exhausting, but those were some of my favorite days on set. That sounds really masochistic, but it’s the scenes that break me that I love the most, in a way.”
