After 25 years of trying to steal Pikachu, Team Rocket bids farewell in Pokémon Anime

“Prepare for trouble! And make it double! To protect the world from devastation! To unite all peoples within our nation! To denounce the evils of truth and love! To extend our reach to the stars above! Jessie! James! Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light! Surrender now, or prepare to fight! Meowth, that's right!”

If you know their motto, it's because you're a fan of the saga. It's Team Rocket, represented by the dynamic duo of evil, Jessie and James (and well, Meowth). They've been after Ash for over 25 years, trying to steal Pikachu to carry out the evil plans of their leader, Giovanni. And now they are history, as it has been officially confirmed that Team Rocket has been disbanded and will no longer appear in the Pokémon anime.

Why is Team Rocket disbanded?

According to the video clip you can see above from the latest Pokémon episode released in Japan, the trigger that led Jessie and James to make the tough decision is that they are tired of failing. It's not the first time the group has argued after seeing their umpteenth evil plan fail, but this time they decide to release all the Pokémon they've captured to carry out their operations, and after a scene that feels like a farewell, they each leave separately and disappear into the horizon. If Ash's farewell left us paralyzed, now we have to add a new loss.

The new Pokémon anime will premiere on April 14th in Japan - the date for the rest of the world is unknown. So while we wait, today is a good day to say goodbye and remember an unforgettable moment, the first time we met Team Rocket. In the end, it will be true that even your worst enemy can grow fond of you…
