CD Projekt RED reveals that one of The Witcher projects has restarted its development
Project Sirius, a The Witcher project being developed by The Molasses Flood, will refocus and restart its process, according to CD Projekt RED.
CD Projekt RED is not convinced with The Witcher game that The Molasses Flood is working on. This has been confirmed in a document addressed to the company's shareholders, where they revealed that they will reformulate the project, which suggests that development has been restarted.
According to the studio, the expenditure made until the end of 2022 (33.4 million zlotys, or around 7.5 million dollars) “will burden the financial results of the Company and the CD PROJEKT Group for the year 2022.” The same will happen with the 9.5 million zlotys (around 2 million dollars) that have been spent in January and February of 2023.
The developer has explained that the decision was made after evaluating "the scope and commercial potential of the original concept of Project Sirius," as well as "ongoing work on formulating a new framework for this project".
When it was announced, CD Projekt RED defined Project Sirius as an "innovative approach to the universe of The Witcher, which will tell an unforgettable story for both fans of the series and new audiences." In October 2022, the study revealed that the title by The Molasses Flood was still in the pre-production phase. This developer has about 60 workers and has been a part of CDPR since 2021.
A new trilogy and more The Witcher
The future of The Witcher involves a new trilogy without Geralt of Rivia, which will start with Project Polaris. Canis Majoris, developed by Fool's Theory, is the remake of the first installment. The title will be built on the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine, so they will abandon their own RED Engine. CD Projekt has confirmed that the remake will not be the first to arrive, since the first one is expected to be Project Polaris.
"I think that The Witcher Remake will be based largely on Polaris technologies, so it will be partly developed in parallel. Once Polaris is launched," said Adam Kiciński, head of the study.
