Redfall, the experience of walking among vampires

A few days ago, at the XBOX Loft in the city of San Francisco, California, we had the opportunity to test Redfall, the new title from Arcane Studios that will be released on May 2nd as part of the Bethesda Exclusives for the Xbox X/S Series, PC and Xbox Game Pass.

During this experience, we were able to play the solo campaign for about an hour and a half. In our case, we played as Jacob Boyer, one of the 4 characters available during the test.

Gameplay

For those who love the challenge, this game will have 4 difficulty levels: Daylight, Dusk, Midnight and Darkness. Once selected, we enter a series of missions and sub-missions with 7 levels of experience to test some of the character's abilities.In Boyer's case, he has a crow that can identify his enemies and signal them to know where to attack. He also has the ability to become invisible to attack by surprise or simply to evade, and finally his main power allows him to attack multiple enemies with his sniper rifle, a weapon that is his specialty.

Layla Ellison has a support vampire that can take enemies by surprise to distract them while you attack, another of her powers is a kind of box that allows you to lift yourself up as if you were on a springboard, its special feature is a kind of umbrella that is able to stop the attacks of the enemies.

Remi de la Rosa, on the other hand, is a Latin engineer who can drop bombs on her enemies and use the explosions to propel herself to a higher level. She also has a robot that can be used as a decoy, a tank to attract enemy attacks, or even to revive teammates.

Devinder Crousley has a kind of stake that can paralyze enemies and bind them to a certain place, he can also turn vampires to stone, and his special allows him to teleport to other places using a disc-shaped device.

Something we really liked is the clarity within the skill tree, which is divided into 3 categories and 3 others related to weapons and health. Something else the developers have done well is that to eliminate a vampire we don't just have to shoot them, there is a moment when they are stunned and we have to finish them off with a weapon that has a stake built into it or with ultraviolet light to turn them to stone.

Something that caught our attention is that the studio itself has made an emphasis on removing a part of their DNA that rewarded those who played stealth, something typical of Arkane Studios. Now, in Redfall, they have made it clear that they want you to approach the game the way you want to, that yes, manage your weapons well.

Graphics from beyond the grave

In the visual aspects, this game has an art design that tinges the cel shading style with semi-realistic graphics, something that gives it a comic-like touch, while still having its sober part.

Sounds from Beyond

The audio has funny sequences due to the comments of the characters themselves, without forgetting the frenzy they project through their sound effects. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is activated in key moments without being invasive, in fact, this section is the one we consider the most subtle of all.

Redfall is a balanced proposal that we believe will have a lot to offer, especially in the multiplayer section, due to the different characteristics that each of its characters has. Now we just have to wait for its release to hunt down hordes of vampires, either alone or with friends.
