The giant publisher behind game series like NBA 2K and Borderlands will now work alongside LEGO to bring us their newest building block games.

Update:
2K Games and LEGO sign a publishing deal for multiple titles, beginning with LEGO 2K Drive

LEGO is heading to a new horizon in the world of video games. The Danish company has signed an agreement with 2K Games for the development of “multiple AAA games” based on the license. The first of them will be LEGO 2K Drive.

“With 2K's proven expertise in creating high-quality and engaging interactive entertainment properties and the unprecedented cultural impact from the LEGO group, the collaboration will evolve the iconic LEGO video game experience that fans know and love in exciting ways.

Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts, developers of LEGO 2K Drive, ensures that the team was very aware of the responsibility of having this license in their hands, and that they continue to think about how to bring something new and unique to a LEGO title. "For LEGO 2K Drive, we assembled a best-in-class team of game makers who poured their hearts into an unforgettable experience we can’t wait to share with fans.”

LEGO 2K Drive, fun by flag

Here at MeriStation, we have already been able to play a build of LEGO 2K Drive for a couple of hours. During our impressions we said that the first contact "Is a demonstration of knowing what to do with the license". “It's a blast to play, oozes Danish block humor and includes an editor that shoots straight at the fan's heart. We want to continue deepening to find out to what extent the variety of objectives reaches the most advanced scenarios.”

The driving title has been announced by surprise, although we won't have to wait long to play it: it releases on may 19 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
