Warhorse Studios has made us see that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a game that will put us medieval everywhere by making a port that, at least in its PC version, allows us to play on platforms like the Asus Rog Ally X. Now after several weeks of play we can say that with this medieval RPG, the studio has expanded its vision by expanding the experience of its predecessor.

A well thought-out sequel

As we mentioned in our preview, this installment focuses on Henry and picks up right where Kingdom Come: Deliverance left off, with the protagonist literally starting from scratch after a series of unfortunate encounters. And on a narrative level, this is well justified, as we will gradually have to rebuild our character in order to save him, his friendship with Hans Capon and the main goal, which is to deliver a message to Otto Von Berngow. All this is done mainly to advance the game mechanics.

A world that invites you to get lost in the Middle Ages

From the very first moment, Bohemia presents itself as a vast and vibrant setting. The natural environments that stood out in the first game have been enhanced with a higher level of detail and an impressive draw distance that is even more enjoyable on a PC that supports it. Meanwhile, the towns and cities are full of life and activity, with characters going about their daily tasks and events that can trigger side quests, something that players who like alternate quests will really enjoy. In our case, the “introductory part” took us more than 20 hours, which literally could have been the experience of a normal game, but KCD2 will give us more than 100 hours of gameplay.

Kutná Hora

The city of Kutná Hora is one of the climatic points of the game. Its design and atmosphere take us back to the Middle Ages in a unique way. Walking through its streets, admiring its buildings and participating in its activities is an experience worth savoring.

Mechanics

The gameplay of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is more than complex, as our actions, clothing, and even personal hygiene affect our reputation and dialog options. Reputation is virtually everything, and how we manage our relationships with different factions and collectives will lead us down some very amusing paths.

Missions

This is one of the strong points of the game, as the puzzles are varied and closely related to the story, involving us even more in the narrative. However, they can be solved in many ways and have different outcomes, which gives the game a high replay value.

A more refined combat system

This section, which was criticised in the first game, has been revised and improved. Although it retains its realistic and challenging approach, it is more intuitive and fluid. Punching, blocking and dodging feel more natural, allowing for more dynamic combat.

Realism taken to the extreme

Warhorse Studios pull no punches when it comes to recreating the life and customs of the Middle Ages. This is reflected in every aspect of the game, from the clothing and equipment of the characters to the smallest details of the scenarios.

An outstanding audiovisual section

The graphics have been one of the great surprises and the scenarios are recreated with great fidelity. The soundtrack, composed by Jan Valta, is epic and the dubbing makes the experience even more immersive.

PC version

In the computer version, we were able to test it with Nvidia’s new GPU to be able to run the title to the maximum in native 4K with the visuals set to “experimental”.

The computer we tested it on had the following characteristics

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K
  • GPU: GeForce RTX 5090
  • RAM: 32 GB Kingston Fury DDR5 at 5600 Mhz
  • Motherboard: Z790 AORUS Elite AX
  • Cooling system: Aorus Waterforce X240
  • SSD: Kingston Fury Renegade PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2

With this PC, we were able to achieve an average of 90 FPS, and when we enabled DLSS in quality mode, we exceeded the average of 120 FPS.

In addition, and as we commented in our previous post. With the Asus Rog Ally X, using the visuals preset in the middle with FSR active in quality mode and the 17 W operating mode with a refresh rate of 60 Hz with a resolution of 720, we managed to maintain an average of over 50 FPS.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a title that leaves nothing to chance, its historical realism and the challenges it offers make it one of the best RPG’s at the moment due to its level of depth. Although it takes some of the more visceral and rough elements from the first game, it has managed to polish them to make it feel like a robust game. By far, it is a sequel that more than fulfills all the expectations that were placed on it, consolidating Warhorse Studios as a great studio.
