Red alert in Germany. According to reports from the BSI, the German Federal Information Security Office, the German police gave notice that a new type of malware was installed on more than 30,000 mobile phones. The malicious software, which is called BadBox, appeared inserted in the code of the devices before they left the factory, and is designed to steal personal data and commit advertising fraud.

Apparently, this program was introduced into all devices before they left the factory where they were created. Once in the hands of consumers, BadBox is activated as soon as the smartphone connects to the Internet, thus starting a process in which other malware is installed that is responsible for evading two-step authentication codes and generating fraudulent income by inserting various advertisements. And if that is not enough, the affected mobile phones are also added to a botnet that is used to carry out cyber attacks like DDoS.

Fortunately, the BIS reported that they managed to successfully block the malware, but they warn that there is a risk that other devices may have been infected. To avoid problems, It is recommended to disconnect these devices from the network and discard them immediately.
