343 Industries discontinues Halo Waypoint app nearly two years after its release

Halo Waypoint will continue to operate through its official website, but the mobile app will be closed at the beginning of June.

Halo Waypoint is saying goodbye to its dedicated app on mobile devices. 343 Industries has confirmed that it will cease to be available on June 7, 2023. All the information it handled will be transferred to the web version of the same name, including shared files, scoreboards, player stats for each Halo game, and other features.

The app was released in September 2021 as an extension of the Halo player experience leading up to the release of Halo Infinite. However, the studio notes that “usage patterns shift” indicate that most player usage is coming from the website itself, rather than the dedicated app.

“As we look to the future, our focus is on the products and experiences that are most impactful and beneficial to our players and community,” the studio said in an official statement. “Going forward, all the same content and features will continue to live and grow on halowaypoint.com. The Halo Waypoint website on mobile and desktop will remain the home for Halo game service records, file shares, leaderboards, franchise news, HCS, code redemption, and more.” 343 Industries concludes by thanking “everyone who has supported the Halo Waypoint app and provided feedback along the way. We hope to continue enriching your game experiences and celebrating the Halo franchise with you.”

Changes at 343 Industries

These decisions are no accident. Since last September, the studio has been undergoing a restructuring process that began with the departure of Bonnie Ross, who led the team for the past 15 years. Her position has been split into three new positions headed by Pierre Hintze, who has become the new head of 343 Industries. We recently learned of the final departure of Joseph Staten, the man most responsible for bringing Halo Infinite to fruition in 2021. Remember that the title is available on the Xbox X|S series, Xbox One and PC.
