Sony

A New PS5 patent seeks to combine controller with headphones

Sony is looking to the future in a very special way, with a patent that’s looking to integrate other types of audio technology into PlayStation controllers.

DualSense

A new patent from Sony could make it easier for users to get around audio issues by expanding the existing headphone-to-controller connection inside the PlayStation 5.

According to a patent filed by Sony (via GameRant), the company could be working on a new controller that allows you to store earbuds inside. These slots would not only allow you to store the earbuds (which would be useful for those who play with this type of device), but would also allow you to charge its battery. The patent shows different places where this type of headphones could be stored, in the back of the controller or even under the touchpad, which indicates that the company had not yet defined its place when filing the patent. It is worth mentioning that the patent registration does not indicate that the company is already working on this and that it will see the light of day.

Considering the variety of types and shapes of earbuds on the market, one wonders which would be designed for this type of control. It is worth remembering that in the middle of the year, PlayStation showed its first official earbuds for the console, later called Pulse Explore, along with the then Project Q (now PlayStation Portal). To this we must add that in recent days Sony has announced new products within its INZONE line, highlighting the INZONE Buds, which will arrive at a price of 200 dollars, being another candidate. Although considering that both have their own charging case, the question remains whether it will be a viable option.
