Adam Driver reportedly eyed to play Magneto in Marvel Studios’ ‘X-Men’ reboot
Insiders claim the ‘Star Wars’ star is being considered to lead the MCU’s upcoming X-Men reboot.
The run-up to San Diego Comic-Con is always rife with rumors and leaks about the future of comics and movies. Rumors about the future of the MCU are starting to circulate, and this time, speculation is already focusing on what will happen after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. While Kevin Feige mentioned a few days ago that the ‘X-Men’ are next after the two ‘Avengers’ movies, this new rumor points to one of the first actors cast to join its extensive lineup.
According to insiders MyTimetoShineHello and ApcHOrseman on social media, it has been revealed that Adam Driver is being considered to play the master of magnetism himself, Magneto. The original leak suggested that Driver would portray an X-Men villain within the MCU. If so, the actor who brought Kylo Ren to life would follow in the footsteps of Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender, who both delivered impressive portrayals of this character.
The X-Men Are Taking a More Youth-Oriented Direction
It was revealed several months ago that the plan for the X-Men in the MCU was to give the franchise a “youth-oriented” reboot. And while Jake Schreier has already been tapped to direct the film, details about the mutants in the MCU have been kept under the strictest possible wraps.
In addition to Driver, speculation suggests that Sadie Sink’s as-yet-unrevealed character in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is Jean Grey—something we’ll finally find out later this month. Meanwhile, Inde Navarrete, the lead actress in ‘Obsession’, has also been mentioned as a possible cast member in an as-yet-unconfirmed role. Other names already being mentioned include Patrick Wilson, Adessa A’zion, and Peter Claffey, among others.
