‘Alien: Earth’ aims to be the next ‘Game of Thrones’ or ‘The Last of Us’
FX’s sci-fi epic premieres August 13 on Disney+ with a budget reportedly exceeding $250 million.

‘Alien: Earth’, the highly anticipated prequel series from FX, is set to debut on August 13, 2025, exclusively on Disney+ in the U.S. The showrunner, Noah Hawley (’Fargo’, 'Legion’), has crafted a bold new chapter in the Alien universe, one that takes place on Earth in the year 2120, decades before Ellen Ripley’s iconic journey aboard the Nostromo.
According to Variety, FX has invested more in ‘Alien: Earth’ than it did in 'Shōgun’, which had a reported budget of $250 million, making this one of the most expensive series in the network’s history.
A new mythology for a new era
Hawley has described the series as a chance to rebuild the Alien mythos from scratch, focusing on themes of corporate greed, climate collapse, and technological ambition. In this future, Earth is ruled by five mega-corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold.
“There’s surprisingly little mythology in the seven films,” Hawley said. “It’s been great not having to retrofit a story, just starting fresh.”
The series introduces hybrids, AI-powered humanoid robots with human consciousness. The first prototype, Wendy (played by Sydney Chandler), becomes central to the plot after a Weyland-Yutani spacecraft crashes in Prodigy City, unleashing a terrifying new lifeform.

Cast and release details
‘Alien: Earth’ will consist of eight episodes, with the first two dropping on August 13 and new episodes releasing weekly on Wednesdays. The cast includes:
- Sydney Chandler as Wendy
- Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh
- Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, and more
The series is executive produced by Noah Hawley, Ridley Scott, and David W. Zucker, among others.
