Update:

Apple TV has reached an agreement to adapt Brandon Sanderson’s fantasy novels for film and television. This was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, which noted that the first two titles to arrive will be the Mistborn saga (films) and The Stormlight Archive (series). Theresa Kang will serve as executive producer of the Apple TV series.

According to sources at The Hollywood Reporter, Sanderson has met with most studio executives and will retain creative control over the adaptations: he will not only be a consultant, but will also write and produce.

Brandon Sanderson will be heavily involved in the adaptations

On the other hand, he will have the unusual prerogative of approving or rejecting elements of these productions. For example, George R.R. Martin, author of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, has been unable to prevent the changes made to House of the Dragon, which he has publicly criticized. Nor does J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter and Cormoran Strike novels, have as much control over the adaptations.

The author has revealed that he chose Apple because it offers him creative freedom. In the coming months, he will write the screenplay for ‘Mistborn,’ although he does not want to put aside writing new novels. He has also announced that he will explain the agreement in a livestream on Friday, January 30.

The first book in the Mistborn trilogy tells the story of a group of rebels who try to dethrone a tyrannical emperor, while the first novel in The Stormlight Archive is set in a world of magical storms and monsters.
